President Obama signed H.R. 5297, the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act, into law on the afternoon of September 27th, 2010. This bill was written to reduce the tax burden on small businesses and to make loans more readily available to small business owners. The National Restaurant Association is recommending that this is a good time to review capital improvement plans. The bill allows small businesses to deduct the full cost of equipment (up to $500,000) bought or financed during the 2010 and 2011 tax years. This is an opportune time to upgrade operation tools, not only those used for food preparation but also those used in technology and communication.

The integration of a paging system such as JTECH’s ServAlert® has the potential to increase customer satisfaction and encourage repeat guests, which often results in increased sales and greater profits. Amy Roberts is a federal tax partner for Grant Thornton, an audit, tax and financial advisory company with a presence in more than 100 countries. Although sometimes intimidating, Roberts advises that “to get the tax relief…it might be better to bite the bullet and do as much as you can in the next two years.” Where will the money come from? Well, according to Rep. Barney Frank (D – Mass.), one of the 21 co-sponsors of the bill, “The Small Business Lending Fund Act will establish a $30 billion fund to boost lending to small businesses by providing additional capital to community banks.” This might just be the time to look into the various communication solutions that JTECH has developed. With many scalable pager options available, JTECH will assess your unique needs and propose a tailored communication system that will accommodate your restaurant and your plans for growth and capital improvement.
